The Gig and the Girlfriend is the second episode of the third series of The Inbetweeners. It first aired on September 20th, 2010 on E4.

Plot[]

In an attempt to woo an attractive girl from the year below (Tara), Simon agrees to go with her to see Failsafe at a pub; lying to that her regularly goes to gigs as it is something she enjoys. Simon however, further tries to impress Tara by telling her he will bring cannabis to the concert. In another one of his lies, Jay claims he can get drugs anytime from his dealer. When Simon asks Jay for some cannabis, Jay tells him that his dealer has gone to Afghanistan to get harder drugs, despite having told Simon 15 minutes ago that he could easily get hold of drugs. In order to regain his friends trust after his string of lies in the past series, Jay goes to Donovan for some weed, but is given tea and accepts it out of fear.

After failing to buy proper weed, the boys hit the local pub. Whilst Simon and Tara meet each other there, Jay and Neil find a Black man named Steve dealing. They try to ask him for some puff but Steve almost turns them down for assuming he had drugs because of the colour of his skin. However, Jay hands him £30 and Steve gives them cannabis; only because he is a dealer and not that he is "Black". Jay then asks for him to roll it up before they leave, diminishing their image. Later, following peer pressure from Jay and Neil, Will eventually eats the cannabis roll and begins to feel uneasy and scared. Jay refuses to call an ambulance in fear of getting arrested, whilst Neil is left incredibly dazed and sleepy after overdosing on sleeping tablets and cough syrup.

While inside, Jay starts teasing Will about not taking the drugs until Will eats whats left of them. Simon accidentally injures Tara in a moshpit, and, not helped by a mixture of her being stoned and concussed, she begins to feel faint and extremely nauseous. After telling him she feels ill and is going to be sick, she loudly retches and is violently sick over herself, Simon, their shoes and the floor, just as she is about to kiss him. After she's thrown up, the two kiss passionately, only for a retching Tara to stop and rush off to the toilets to puke up everywhere again.

Whilst tending to her, she starts getting excited when Simon starts getting angry. Eventually, Will starts to feel the effects of the drug and becomes frightened and loses control of his hands. When he asks for an ambulance, Jay refuses out of fear of being arrested, Neil starts falling asleep and Simon is too busy pacifying a stoned and profusely vomiting Tara. With no other choice, Will gets up onstage and asks that they either call for an ambulance or his mum. He is then led off the stage by the bouncers as he looked “proper mental”. When Will is being taken into the ambulance, Jay runs away in a panic thinking that the blue light is a police car while Simon and Tara continue kissing and canoodling. As a subplot, Will and Simon stop believing Jay's "bullshit claims" after his dad rumbles one of his stories about having sex in a caravan (which does not actually happen, "Jay showing you where he used to shag the cushions? He thinks me and his mum don't know about that"). Featuring a special guest appearance by rock band Failsafe.
